THE HILAMAS COMMUNITY CENTER

Strengthening communities with values, opportunities, and hope

Located in the Leon II neighborhood, the Hilamas Community Center serves individuals from nearby communities such as La Joya, La Barranca, Miravalle, Hilamas, Valle Antigua, Satelite, Paseos de la Cima, among others. View map »

These areas face high levels of insecurity, domestic violence, substance abuse, and vandalism—factors that create vulnerable conditions for children, youth, and entire families. In response, Fundacion Leon has established a safe, dignified, and transformative space in Hilamas, focused on providing real tools for comprehensive human development.

Our commitment: transforming through values

Every activity we promote at the Hilamas Community Center is rooted in an ongoing process of community assessment. We listen, we observe, and we act. All of our programs, workshops, classes, and training sessions are designed to respond to the specific needs of the local context, and are grounded in a central pillar: living and promoting values as the driving force for social change.

We firmly believe that only through respect, empathy, responsibility, and collaboration can we build a more just and compassionate society.

Program offerings

The Hilamas Center promotes the development of physical, artistic, cognitive, and emotional skills through a wide range of services:

  • Physical activity and body expression: soccer, jazz dance, yoga.
  • Art and creativity: painting, French dough crafts.
  • Technical and economic training: computer skills, hairstyling and beauty, sewing and tailoring, baking.
  • Special courses: 4-week summer workshops that include weekly field trips, allowing children to explore cultural and recreational spots around the city of Leon.

All of these activities are designed with a formative and transformative approach: each class is an opportunity to discover talents, strengthen family bonds, and build a life project.

Tangible impact in the community

The Hilamas Community Center has become a model for effective community intervention. Its growth is a reflection of the trust of local families, the dedication of our professional team, and the support of volunteers who share our mission.

As Fundacion Leon’s first Development Center, it holds countless success stories—where young people and parents alike have achieved greater personal development, leading to a better future.

Today, more people of all ages are actively participating in the workshops, and we proudly witness how the center’s benefits extend to the family unit and the wider community. Mothers, fathers, children, youth, and older adults find more than just services here—they find support, motivation, and purpose.

Social impact

  • 18,000 families and 54,000 people have been benefited since the opening of Fundacion Leon
  • Successful fundraising campaigns
  • Volunteer workers from the high school and university of the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey-Campus Leon, the Universidad de Leon, the Universidad Iberoamericana Leon, the Universidad De La Salle Bajio, the high school CECITEG, and the high school Nuevo Continente
  • Support from the INAEBA (Instituto de Alfabetizacion y Educacion Basica para Adultos) and AMSIF (Asociacion Mexicana para la Superacion Integral de la Familia)

A call to action

Social transformation doesn’t happen alone. At Fundacion Leon we work every day to create conditions that allow every person to grow with dignity, but we need more support, more allies, more helping hands to make this mission possible. Join us!

Thank you a lot for giving us the opportunity to learn new things and for helping us to see our own individual qualities. Thank you because as people you showed us that anything is possible and that there is no bigger impediment than the limits we put on ourselves.

The spaces provided for the courses are adequate and the teachers are experts in their subject matters, and if we do not know how to do something, they explain to us how to do it.

I take with me a very beautiful experience, of meeting new people, and putting into practice in my job and with my family all the things I learned.

Thank you for all you taught us!

First of all I want to thank you for the help you gave us, the teachers, the staff of Fundacion Leon who were the ones that taught us topstitching, for lending us the machines and giving us the material and support.

The talks they gave on Mondays helped me to answer my questions and the workshop allowed me to teach myself how to work to be a responsible person with solid values.

All was very good, and just for me, it seemed the workshop was very short but it was a very fine course. That is why I thank everybody, all the people that helped me and my co-workers. Thank you!

I, Sandra Gabriela, give thanks to all the institutions who collaborated on this project, which helped me to acquire abilities and crafts that I didn't have before, and also for preparing me to help my family by having more options for work in the future. What I acquired was very helpful and I learned it well, still I have to perfect it but with practice I will do it better and I will take with me the knowledge of how this can be done. Thank you very much for everything.
